A Fever Dream

Imagine a dream where a balloon-like object grows larger and larger until it squeezes you into a corner of the ceiling, leaving you feeling suffocated, tense, and fearful. The inspiration for this project, as the title suggests, comes from a dream Yuan had as a child while running a fever. The entire video takes the exploration of sensory experience as a starting point, leading the audience to navigate the entire space by constructing specific visual effects and different personal perspectives. In the video, the space is situated within Yuan's bedroom, but with the addition of strange and unsettling objects that don't belong there, creating an atmosphere of surrealism and disorientation. Yuan used first-person and third-person perspectives to navigate the space and guide the audience through the process of being squeezed by the balloon to the ceiling. As dreams tend to be unclear, I relied on their feelings to create the texture and material of the balloon. It's depicted like TV static, which adds a sense of pressure and discomfort, similar to sudden changes in vision when standing up with low blood sugar, or the visual version of the sensation of numbness in the legs.
